The Mas de Melons Nature Reserve is an agricultural area in the dry lands on the Lleida Plain. It is home to the biggest population of sandgrouse in Catalonia, although there are also other species of steppic birds such as the stone-curlew, the little bustard, the greater short-toed lark, etc. These birds find their ideal habitat in the cluster of fallow land, barren vegetation, barley crops, olive and almond groves in the area.
