Cycle on roads and wide tracks

If you cycle through natural spaces, do so on roads or wide tracks, never on narrow paths. And always at the permitted speed. In nature, there is room for everyone!

Problems it can cause

Cycling off roads or forest tracks significantly increases the erosion of paths and trails and affects the habitats and wildlife we find there. It can also disturb both wildlife and other visitors. While cycling is considered and environmentally friendly mode of transport, some wildlife may experience stress and negative impacts due to the presence of bicycles.

Additionally, modern electric bicycles make it easier to access areas that would not be reachable with a conventional bicycle, increasing the presence of people in remote and tranquil areas.

Best practices

Cycling is a great way to explore natural areas, as long as you follow some Best Behavioural Practices:

  • Ride on wide roads and tracks.
  • Do not ride on roads where cycling is expressly prohibited!
  • Bike at the permitted speed, never faster.
  • Never cycle across fields.
  • Get information about the routes adapted and signposted for cycling.
