Ribera Salada riverbank

Fluvial area located at the foot of the Odèn mountain range that includes the headwaters of the Ribera Salada river to the confluence with the Riera Canaleta stream.

The Ribera Salada river is an excellent example of the characteristics of the mountain rivers between the Segre and Llobregat basins.

Its peculiar interest lies in the fact of conserving valuable fluvial ecosystems originating from a karst source (Font de Sant Quintí) with a minimal current degree of alteration, especially in terms of water quality, throughout the route of the riverbank, and to the characteristics of the riverbank forest.

A dedicated team with environmental informants will ensure responsible and orderly access to the protected natural areas and the gorges and river areas most often frequented during the summer. In this way, we aim to guarantee the right both to recreation and the protection of the environment.

Ribera Salada

Information

Impacts

This PNA suffers from a loss of water quality due to the residual discharge from farms and the town of Cambrils, which discharge into the Fred River, a tributary of the Salada river. It also shows the erosion and disappearance of the riparian forest around the Sant Quintí spring as a result of human activity.

On the other hand, it is important to underline the impact that some of the medium voltage lines in this space have on birds of prey, with electrocutions due to the poor design and lack of maintenance of the tower insulators.

One of the other risks in this space is falling boulders.

Natural vulnerability

The natural systems in this area do not present significant specific problems, despite the fragility of certain aquatic ecosystems and riparian forests.
